BARROW RANGERS 2-17    GALMOY 0-16

Barrow Rangers Junior hurlers finally got off the mark in the League at the third attempt when they saw off the challenge of Galmoy at sun kissed Conahy last Saturday. Galmoy stole a march on them at the start and were three points up after four minutes courtesy of Kevin Duggan, Brandan Phelan and a Conor Drennan free. Marc Drennan opened Rangers account in the fifth minute and thereafter followed a period of Rangers dominance that saw Jack Kelly knock over three points, the first from play followed by two frees. A fine point by Galmoy's Conor Drennan saw the teams go to the water break tied at four points each.

On the resumption of play Rangers were first to strike. Timmy Brennan found the net from close range after a fumble by the Galmoy goalkeeper and when Timmy landed a point soon after there was four between the teams. Duggan and Kelly swapped points before Billy Drennan got the first of his points to leave a goal between the sides 1-06 to 0-06. Kelly then pushed Rangers lead out to five, the first from a free, but as the clock ticked towards half time it was back to a three point game after a pointed free from Bill Drennan and one from play by his brother Conor.

Halftime Barrow Rangers 1-08 Galmoy 0-08.

As the second half started Rangers three point lead was short lived, by the twelfth minute Galmoy had landed seven unanswered points, six from the stick of Billy Drennan of which four were from placed balls. Sean Phelan also got in on the act with a point. Barrow Rangers 1-08 Galmoy 0-15. There was shades of the Windgap match all over again. During this period Rangers had introduced Martin Bambrick, Jimmy Kane and Cathal English to the fray and the latter would make a telling contribution. English broke the Galmoy sequence shortly after coming on with a well taken point and Kelly followed up with a pointed free before the water break. Barrow Rangers 1-10 Galmoy 0-15.

If Galmoy had dominated the opening quarter Rangers would do likewise in the second quarter restricting their opponents to a single point while they would put a further 1-07 on the scoreboard. English pointed soon after the restart and after Marc Drennan levelled the game Kelly went on a five point scoring spree, four of which were from play. Conor Drennan got Galmoy's final point of the game and with the game ebbing towards its conclusion a Jimmy Kane side line cut was met perfectly by English whose overhead strike found the net to seal victory for Rangers.
